the girl & the fig in Sonoma is always accepting applications for both Culinary and Pastry ExternsExternship applicants must be CIA students needing an externship as part of their school requirement.

We are a restaurant group with multiple locations in the Sonoma Valley, which includes the girl & the fig in Sonoma, the fig café in Glen Ellen, the girl & the fig CATERS!, Suite D, The Fig Rig, and our FIGfood product line. We strive to use the best in local, sustainable food, and we continually develop many in-house programs to promote those ideals. Our second cookbook was released in 2011 and focuses on our seasonal Plats du Jour menu while also featuring many local farmers and artisan producers. Please visit us online for more information.

You are encouraged to ask questions and let us know your interests so that we can provide you with the experience that will help you grow and learn the most while you’re in our kitchens.

Culinary Externships

Our culinary externs experience a variety of different stations and spend hands-on time in each of our kitchens to get a large exposure to our different environments, culinary programs, and job duties required to make a team successful.

Generally, our externs will rotate between our locations and between stations to get the most well-rounded exposure. A typical 12 week internship may include:

Pastry Externships

Our pastry externs get hands-on experience in every aspect of our pastry kitchen. Working closely with our pastry chef, externs will work on a variety of projects for our restaurants, catered events, and special custom orders while also learning about the job duties required to make a team successful.

Generally, our externs will rotate between our different pastry programs to get the most well-rounded exposure.

Restaurant Production

Production for our dessert menus happens in our pastry kitchen. Menus change weekly and include items such as caramel apple galette, lavender crème brûlée, and chocolate & salted fig caramel trifle.

Catered Events

Desserts for our special catered events include dessert minis, cookies & bars, macarons, and house-made gelato.

Special Custom Orders

We offer a variety of custom order cakes and cookies available for pick up or to be included as part of a lunch or dinner reservation at the girl & the fig.
